THIS WEEK: Fly Fishing the Mt. Shasta Region
The northeastern corner of California is sometimes called the “Golden Triangle” by anglers because of the numerous fish-filled watersheds, including the McCloud, Upper Sacramento, Fall, Pit, Klamath Rivers and Hat Creek. The wild waters around Mt. Shasta California offer vast angling opportunities all year round. Anglers from all over the world have been enticed by the fabled rivers, streams, lakes and magnificent mountain vistas.
For over ten years, the Orvis endorsed fly fishing guides Chuck Volckhausen & John Rickard have shared their wisdom guiding anglers of all ages and skill levels. Wild Waters Fly Fishing guided trips focus on patient instruction using traditional and innovative techniques, these consist of original bamboo rod, dry-fly methods on spring creeks to newer age switch rods with Skagit lines on steelhead rivers. You will be rewarded with Klamath River steelhead and king salmon, world famous McCloud River rainbows, German & loch levan browns and smallmouth bass. And even though this is classic backcountry operation, the Wild Waters team can also arrange for guests to receive a massage or choose from a specialized lunch menu on request.
If you’re in the area and looking for expert advice on local waters, in need of any fly fishing gear, or just looking to stop in and swap decade old fishing tales, be sure to check out Ted Fay Fly Shop, located in Dunsmuir, California, just minutes from Mt. Shasta.
