Jim Kane founded Culture
Xplorers with the mission
of fostering an "immersive, positive experience by connecting
travelers and local people through a celebration of their living
culture and traditions." His small company offers guests
a rare opportunity not only to travel through Peru, but to also
experience its culture through participation.
He has organized two summer 2006 trips timed to
coincide with local festivals - the Corpus Christi Festival in
June and the Virgen del Carmen Festival in July. Join Jim and
his friends in Peru for a hike through the region's picturesque
countryside and a chance to soak up some culture. Learn more at
the Culture Xplorers website: www.culturexplorers.com.

We met Peter English and learned of Napo Wildlife
Center through our rock-climbing pal, Laura Jones. Peter works
with Tropical Nature,
an established and highly regarded non-profit organization using
ecotourism to create new conservation areas in Ecuador. One
of these areas is in Amazonian Ecuador, where Peter & Laura
turned us on to the Napo Wildlife Center (www.napowildlifecenter.com).
Visitors to the Wildlife Center spend their days lounging on the
lodge's beautiful grounds in one of the 10 luxury cabanas, or
wandering the rainforest with its incredible bird and wildlife
viewing.
While in recent years many businesses in
this area have rushed to label themselves as "eco" even
though they may not operate an environmentally responsible
business, Napo Wildlife Center is the real deal. The Center's
proceeds directly pay for the conservation of 82 miles of
pristine lowland rainforest.

And for those among you who enjoy adventures
in dining as much as adventures in nature, we recommend Tricia
Robinson, an expert chef who has been featured on HGTV and
in prominent magazines. Tricia comes highly recommended from our
foodie friends - her culinary adventure travel company, "Taste
of Provence," provides guests with a chance to travel & learn
to cook in the regional French style. Although she offers many
trips based in Provence, for September 2006 she's planning two
excursions for food lovers in Britain - one in southwest England
and another in the Lake District and Scottish Borders.
Thanks to celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver and
Nigella Lawson, the "bangers and mash" era of stodgy
British fare has been laid to rest; the epicures among you will
enjoy accompanying Tricia as she delves into all that's delicious
and divine in the English and Scottish countryside. (Haggis consumption
is strictly optional!) Contact Tricia for details at info@tastofprovence or
visit her website: www.tasteofprovence.com.
