Powderhorn Ranch – More from Colorado
Powderhorn Ranch, outside of Gunnison, Colorado, extends down a valley and is surrounded by the Gunnison National Forest; elk and deer mosy carefree around the property’s roads and you won’t hear anything except birds. According to host, Shelley Williams, it’s the tranquil experience along with their awesome staff that make most of their guests annual visitors- often at the request of the kids!
At Powderhorn, Guests wake up in the morning, and create their own daily “Menu” of activities. They pick and choose from a varied list: riding, rafting, wildlife walks, jeep adventures – and even square dancing.
When asked what she hoped each guest would walk away with after visiting Powderhorn, Shelly said:
“Altitude adjustment. Guests are coming from somewhere else that’s chaotic; they arrive here and are able to totally “chillax”. There is no cell service, they can walk away from all their electronic devices that tie them down and just get back to nature, to spending time with their significant other, or whatever it may be. They can sit around the pool or be social. The experience, or what they get out of it, is different for every guest. There is something for everybody. Everyone walks away happy.” (Read about how Shelley and her husband Greg moved from the Detroit Police Force to the Rocky Mountains and why one guests got the nickname “Treehugger,” in our interview with Shelley)
The ranch has room for 30 people, and many guests have their family reunions here. The Williams family keep the ranch open from May through October.
