Tunes from Dave Steward

davidstewardThe first time I heard Dave Steward sing I was overlooking the miles of endless canyon country in the heart of Canyonlands National Park.  As the Green River pushed on to its deeper destiny and convergence with the Colorado River below, Dave crooned the sweetest, saddest, loveliest Western tune I had ever heard.

Finally, Dave has released a CD: Wild West Heart.  Gary Cox, who has been the ranger in the incredibly remote Maze district of Canyonlands for the past 21 years, partnered with Dave on the lyrics to create a country masterpiece.  (Ever want to hear stories about how wild the wild west still is?  Talk to Gary.)

Dave’s musical background touches all the bases: he’s played in rock n’ roll bands, you can hear him every Sunday playing jazz at Arches Book Company, he stars in the Bar-M-Chuckwagon country and western shows, and with gentle and persistent coaxing, he might even sing a song for you on the sidewalks of Moab, UT.  Dave’s long and diverse background shines in his smooth voice and beautiful guitar.  Check him out here; start with the upbeat “Branded for Glory” and explore from there!
