Amber Moyle: Travcoa’s Adventure Designer & Sustainable Development Champion

Amber Moyle

Being a fashion designer may have its perks – free couture and nights out with celebrities – but in our book the perks of Amber Moyle’s gig at Travcoa wins hands down. Scouting your next holiday or dreaming about future career moves? Read on.

In a recent conversation with Amber she shared stories of managing the logistics for escorted Travcoa groups through Jordan, Syria and Israel, as well as escorting herself tours to Albania, Macedonia and Greece.  And when she was asked to design a specialized trip focused on tea, she was able to put it together fairly quickly because she’d already spent so much time researching resources… in Japan and India.   The tea trip really caught our attention:  Amber’s client was interested in the culture of tea, and hoped to learn about aspects of tea production, sales and culture.  The trip Amber designed would take her client through India, Japan and England, three countries with prominent and very different tea cultures.  For a family traveling to Japan with kids, Amber scouted unusual activities such as the Asimo robot show at the Honda Plaza in Tokyo.

Amber started on the path to her current job years ago when she worked as a trip leader, guiding summer language learning trips for students in Spain and Argentina.  Following stints with Backroads and Geographic Expeditions she moved to California where she’s been designing custom trips for Travcoa since October 2007.  Passionate about the environment, Amber also created Travcoa’s Newport Beach office’s Sustainability program – overseeing recycling procedures and energy efficiency in the office.

It seems that Amber has one of the few jobs that will always stay fresh, because travelers always want to be surprised.  To deliver on that, she’s got to stay one step ahead – researching philanthropic organizations for guests who want to ‘give back’ on their trips, or finding local families who will meet with guests in their homes, discovering new places to bike ride or hike, while still keeping abreast of the latest developments in theater and at world class museums, for example.  Learn more about Travcoa at www.travcoa.com.
