Culture Aangan’s Maharashtran Courtyards

See a different side of south India’s popular beach destination when you explore Goa at one of Culture Aangan’s three destinations. Located in the Maharashtran district of Sindhudurg, Culture Aangan is developing tourism infrastructure to benefit the local community and offer visitors unusual local experiences.

An “aangan” is a courtyard found in the middle of traditional Indian homes – the heart of the home – where family members gather and fruit trees grow. In this common area that you can chill out while enjoying homemade meals, learn to wrap a sari from someone who really knows, or just chat with your hosts.

The Culture Aangan crew will direct you to the area’s quietest beaches, best places to cycle, colorful markets, old forts and Hindu temples. Take in a puppet show and marvel at the leather and wooden marionettes brought to life by master puppeteers; enjoy performances where dramatic Hindu myths are reenacted.
